Political scientis Mutahi Ngunyi has advised President Uhuru Kenyatta to do away with the “dinosaurs” in his government and get more jobless young people working for comparatively lower wages.
Remaining  with little options to address the public wage bill, President Uhuru recently led his cabinet to cut their pay, a move which is populist but makes little economic sense.
The president and his family are state guests, living off the sweat of taxpayers. The same goes to the Deputy President and a host of top government officials who have so far indicated their intention to cut their salaries.
However, many of these people are not the common folks who use public transportation system and have to worry about rent and food. Most of it, if not all, is taken care of by the taxpayer.
Pushing public workers to take a pay cut  despite rise in cost of living in Kenya, with Nairobi, being the most expensive capital city in Africa to live in currently, has seen a section of public workers vehemently opposing the move.
Any good economist knows that the rise in recurrent expenditure is not sustainable unless it is matched with economic growth expanding the revenue base for the government.
Reducing salaries is a direct reduction of people’s disposable incomes hence reduced spending and yes again any good economist will confirm that you do not spur economic growth by reducing spending, this is a straight zero score for Uhuru and his incompetent staff.
Mutahi Ngunyi – credited for giving Jubilee the winning rallying call “tyranny of numbers” – has since distanced himself from the failures of the government. He has maintained a tweetopedia where he ‘advises’ Uhuru on what to do, how, why and when.
The tribal numbers, it seems, no longer make economic sense. His solution:
Solution to bloated Government Wage Bill is simple: Fire the dinosaurs and hire young people for half the price. This is not Rocket science.

Makes sense, sad though, the man at the top is inadvisable!
