In what may be the largest staff transfers in the last ten years at the Office of the President, President Uhuru Kenyatta finally made good his threat to end corruption in ‘his office’ when he ordered the transfer of all senior finance and procurement officials from the Office of the President (OP) at Harambee House.
Over 100 staff have been evicted, with Director of Finance Joseph Kirubi and Govrnment Printer Andrew Rukaria being the highest casualties. While Rukaria, infamous for meddling with the 2010 constitution where his office illegally inserted a few ‘more’ clauses, is yet to be deployed, Kirubi has been moved to the Mining Ministry.
“In my office, there are people who think that it is a house for making money. We must agree it has to come to an end,” Uhuru on February 22. He added, “Watu wajipange. Something will happen soon.” President Uhuru had said not long ago. Reports indicate most of the staff have been moved to other ministries while the OP has seen the appointment of new staff.
