The man who allegedly accosted CORD leader Raila Odinga has a mental problem, police in the area has confirmed. The police arrested the man but released him after concluding he is deranged.
The man managed to hit the CORD leader when he joined a group of local dancers accompanied by Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya. The isolated incident happened at a campaign rally in Kwale where Raila was drumming up support for CORD’s Okoa Kenya referendum initiative. Raila continued with the function unperturbed by the event.
This is the third day of the CORD leader’s coastal tour which also included Taita Taveta, Kilifi, Tana River and Kwale. A planned visit to Lamu was cancelled at the last minute when intelligence reports indicated the area is still volatile.
The CORD leader is expected to return to Nairobi tomorrow.
