Machakos County strongman Alfred Mutua whose recent Facebook PR has been backfiring right in his face has now entered into a Public Relations deal with Citizen TV’s Cheche host David Makali to help rescue his deteriorating public image as a ‘working governor’.
Machakos County has witnessed one strike after another, as Mutua’s hyped economic fundamentals leave a trail of broken families unable to pay school fees for their children, many of whom work as civil servants for the county of Masaku.
Governor Mutua booked Makali at Boma Hotel where sources say money exchanged hands to stop airing negative stories about him. Makali was to collude with reporters and who-is-who of Citizen TV to ensure Mutua, who happen to be one of the biggest advertisers of the media house, is off public scrutiny.
The meeting between the two comes just days after Citizen TV exposed the rot in Mutua’s County Government. The story exposed how Machakos County staff are suffering due to Mutua’s corrupt ways.
Mutua has never remitted his employees statutory deductions which include NHIF, NSSF, Income Tax, Sacco and Loan deductions. Mutua’s deputy Bernard Kiala and Senator Johnstone Muthama have kicked off campaigns to impeach Mutua which has made him panic and activate his media networks.
Mutua who started by buying all sorts of vehicles today faces the challenge of maintaining the vehicles which gobbles over sh 1 billion every financial financial year, the highest across the country, even as other critical sectors of the county remain underfunded.
