Nation Media Group fired journalist Dennis Galava over a hard-hitting editorial setting tone for Jubilee in 2016. He sued.
Another journalist, Andrew Teyie, also sued Nation for wrongful dismissal over his investigative stories touching both Eurobond and NYS Scam.
In email exchanges now widely shared, senior nation journalists differed with both the CEO Joe Muganda and Editor-in-Chief Tom Mshindi over how to cover both Eurobond and NYS scandal. In both, Nation has covered up the crimes, opting to bid for the government.
For long, Nation, now suffering from dearth of serious journalists, has run stories apportioning blame to individuals with no clout in the larger scheme of the corruption scandals.
This week, Nation has returned to publishing terrible, false and misleading stories absolving former devolution CS Anne Waiguru from the multi-million NYS scandal. The Paper has today run a story where it is quoting a ‘tweet’ by Waiguru’s lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi claiming Waiguru’s chief accuser businesswoman Josephine Kabura recanted her evidence against the former devolution CS.
Contacted, Kabura dismissed the allegations. Lawyer Donald Kipkorir wondered if Ahmednasir had been ‘duped’ by people he sent to bribe Kabura to withdraw her affidavit that the deal had ‘materialized’.
Ahmednasir is desperate to win the case for Waiguru. So far, it is alleged several judges he didn’t like have been moved from Milimani Law courts where most of his matters are listed. In the Waiguru case, sources however say he wants to win both the legal and the public aspects of the case to pave way for Waiguru to return to government.
Already, it alleged he has stonewalled investigations on Waiguru by EACC.
“She (Waiguru) is desperate to return to government. Time is running out and she needs to be ‘cleared’, which is almost done…the hard part is the public perception which is why you see Nation running all these scandalous stories trying to cleanse her,” one of Kabura’s lawyers told this writer.
The lawyer claims Ahmednasir is bribing the journalists.
“Waiguru is at the centre of the NYS scam. She is the very fulcrum of the scam and bribing journalists to peddle this otherwise won’t wash,” he said.
