Hon Koigi wa Wamwere
In Mombasa, Thika, Nakuru, Nairobi, Kakamega, Meru, Kitui and Machakos Kenyans are demonstrating against taxes they cannot afford from devolution that has turned against people. During the referendum, ethnic leaders – Kibaki, Raila and Uhuru –misled people to pass the new constitution with all its warps, detention without trial and taxes that governors are now unleashing against people.
When churches, Moi, Koigi and Ruto advised caution and scrutiny, they were ridiculed and called traitors by the same people who are now crying foul. All countries we praise today for their development grew economically because of progressive, selfless, truthful and pro-people leaders. But Kenyans think they can be different and develop. They think they can have leaders who are corrupt, thieves, conmen, simpletons, dictators, oppressors, drug dealers and exploiters and still make them rich and grow the economy.
They forget that when they refuse to embrace progressive, truthful and selfless leaders, they commit suicide. Yes, Kenyans commit suicide when they settle for leaders who engineer oppressive taxes and unaffordable prices to get money for their fat salaries, travel abroad, castles and big four wheel drives.
Kenyans will commit suicide if they embrace devolution whose taxes they cannot pay and is meant not for their development but fat salaries and comfort of MPs, MCAs and governors. And for God’s sake let people stop lying that Uhuru never supported the new constitution. It was his right to support whatever side of the referendum.
