Deputy President William Ruto has summoned all Bomet MCAs to a meeting in Nairobi tomorrow to canvass support for the impeachment of Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto.
URP Â Secretary-General Fred Muteti invited the MCAs to among other things discuss disciplinary actions to be taken on perceived rebels.
However, South Rift leaders, including MCAs opposed to the move, have dared he Deputy President to impeach the Bomet Governor.
Gov Rutto is among those whose names were included in a fictitious list alleged to have been authored by EACC and given to the President which President Uhuru later submitted to parliament in his sate of the union address.
The EACC has since discredited the list as having been ‘edited’, bloating the image of the presidency as an institution that cannot be trusted with official government records.
The differences between Ruto and Rutto stem from their opposition of, and or support for devolution on one hand the future of Kalenjin politics on the other. Isaac Rutto is among the fiercest fighters for devolution while the DP is a centralist.
DP Ruto is the heir-apparent of the Kalenjin-Kikuyu MoU which formed the Jubilee Alliance. However, the inheritance  is way in 2022 and  perceptions that Kikuyus  cannot be trusted and may not vote for Ruto in 2022 remain a sticking issue.
“We read mischief in the Tuesday meeting, which we believe will be used to coach the MCAs to frustrate the governor,†said an MP from Bomet, who requested anonymity for fear of a backlash from the assembly members.
“The party leadership is keen to cut the governor to size and that is what it hopes to achieve by inciting MCAs against him,†he said yesterday.
Governor Ruto has been waging a war against the Deputy President, whom he accuses of fighting devolution. This has earned him admiration from communities which support devolution which has seen him appeal more to the CORD political base than the Jubilee side.
In fact, indications are that should DP Rutto manage to impeach the Bomet Governor, he is set to decamp to ODM, or UDM, a party associated with the ODM and CORD.
Two weeks ago, the Bomet county boss openly taunted the Jubilee coalition for losing the Kajiado Central by-election to Cord. Just recently, Rutto again repeated his comments, claiming what befell the ruling party in Nigeria under President Goodluck Jonathan who have been voted out will befall JAP in 2017.
