Former Vice President and CORD co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned government attempts to increase students tuition fee.
Speaking when he received the university students petition by Sonu Chairman Babu Owino, also the presiding head of all university students organization in Kenya under the KUSO umbrella, the opposition leader hit at the government over insensitivity, saying most students come from ‘humble’ backgrounds.
Kalonzo also demanded unconditional release of all arrested students. He was accompanied by former Moi University student leader Hassan Omar, now the senator for Mombasa County.
Musyoka posted on his Facebook account:
Today I received a petition from SONU Chairman Babu Owino over the University fees Issue; As a Party, we fully supports the cry of the University students currently facing the threat of fees increment and reduction of their HELB loans the majority of whom are from very humble background and is condemning in the strongest terms possible the arrest of some of the students and their leaders while exercising their constitutional right under the new constitution to peaceful demonstration. We demanding the immediate and unconditional release of those arrested and stands with them in their legitimate demand for affordable education.
