Several aspirants allied to the jubilee alliance party have defected to ODM after the party carried a shambolic nomination which gave the party’s ticket to businessman Patrick Tutui.
Leading the defection is Elijah Memusi Kanchori, who came second to Tutui, but whom residents claim was more popular and must have been rigged out.
Trouble started for Tutui when the second and third candidates, Elija and Anthony Kiroken, failed to turn up to congratulate him after ‘winning’ the nominations. Only Joyce Kimojino , who garnered 40 votes and came last in the Jubilee nominations, was at hand to sign off on the final tally and to shake hands with Tutui.
The Orange Party had been given a go ahead by other coalition parties in CORD to field a candidate to replace former MP Joseph Nkaissery who was appointed the cabinet secretary for internal security. ODM has scheduled a press briefing today which sources say will see the party unveil its candidates and receive defections from the Jubilee side.
Meanwhile, thousands of Narok residents are currently demonstrating to remove governor Samuel Ole Tunai from office.
