The arrest and release of blogger Dikembe Disembe. We still strongly judge that this case was politically set off and well orchestrated by the state to overawe anti-government bloggers.
Such antediluvian acts have no space in our contemporary society.
Freedom to express opinions freely is an elemental election of any egalitarian society. We restate our advice to the government to stop discriminatory application of the law to curtail the free exchange of ideas. The seizure and terrorization of bloggers has a chilling effect on the media and Kenyans’ right to freedom of expression. Any government that strives in any comportment to disallow its citizens this right has no business being in power.
After we successfully secured the release of Dikembe on a reviewed bail, we urge the state to make certain that the trial is swift, fair, transparent and in accordance with the Kenya’s constitution. It is also our hope that it will be free from political manipulation. Moving frontward, we will continue conveying our views without fear of repression. We will constructively use the new media to provide checks and balances on the regime in power. No country can ever prosper if its citizens are not given to express themselves freely.
To our acquaintances and leaders who came forward and contributed towards this process, we will forever be grateful to your kind gestures. You showed an example to others on what servant leadership entails. To all the friends of Dikembe, you are chivalrous heroes and invincible patriots. As bloggers, we will continue to put our leaders to task no matter their political affiliation. This nation can never prosper if we become silly cowards. Thank you. Signed, .
