In panic mode after sanctimonious failure to manage the economy, Jubilee Alliance regime is changing the name of their party to include the word ‘Kenya’ while removing the word ‘Alliance’. But this is the end of the story.
Initially, Jubilee Alliance was a corporate body, bringing together URP and TNA (and Ngilu and Balala). At some point, and at the instigation of Deputy President William Ruto, they changed it to Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) which, unlike the Jubilee Alliance (JA) was a single entity.
However, JAP itself was registered in the most scandalous manner, for they only changed the name of another party, the Conservative Party (CP). The Conservative Party, like UDF, as among a dozen parties credited to have been registered by NIS and officials in the last Kibaki administration for ‘safe landing’. These were parties which were to fill the political space. UDF nabbed Musalia Mudavadi and rendered him irrelevant.
The Conservative Party would endure past 2013, allowing itself to be metamorphosed in JAP, including with its officials (some who were DP Ruto ICC fixers). But the bracketed bit sounded its death knell.
Anyway, hizo stori zingine mtajisomea baadaye. Thing is; after the failure of JAP to win the Kajiado by-election, and the strong opposition in the Rift Valley, it was apparent that it would not stand the test of time.
But even juicier, is the entry of Kiraitu Murungi to navigate a re-engineering of JAP. Rather than strengthen JAP, which by all means had gained some traction (winning Kabete by election and Ololuwa Ward Civic Seat), the sick man of party formations decided to do his on algebra.
Once upon a time Kiraitu Murungi formed Alliance Party of Kenya which was to be President Uhuru’s re-election vehicle. Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka was in this party too, perhaps, as runningmate. But it backfired. Uhuru would shortly pick TNA, a little ‘unknown’ party. Kiraitu felt ashamed, and stuck to APK.
The rest was history until recently, when Kiraitu, together with Dr. Noah Wekesa, Â were charged with putting JAP in 2017 mode.
What did Kiraitu do? He decided to go back to his APK, remove the ‘A’ and add ‘J’ and viola!!!
Jubilee Party of Kenya. That’s the new shit!
But Uhuru has abandoned it again. This story is developing.
