Blogger Dennis Itumbi whose unceremonious exit from State House landed him at DP Ruto’s office has been caught crafting damaging propaganda against his former boss, President Uhuru.
This week, it emerged that an enraged Uhuru lashed out at his economic advisors on the dire state of the economy, wondering why Kenyans are “broke” yet the government is undertaking multi-billion shilling projects across the country.
Itumbi lurched on the revelations, first reported by People Daily newspaper, sending a text message to his gang of keyboard warriors to chide the President.
“Guys, share the blog by Pulse & Tuko widely. Let’s sell the narrative to Kenyans that Uhuru is not understanding why they are broke!” reads a message Itumbi sent to his team.
Technically, Itumbi still works in the larger of office of the president. Administratively though, his reporting authority is murky as he functions on the fringes of officialdom. Under him is an army of bots and trolls many who are leftovers of the online disinformation machine that Cambridge Analytica set up for Jubilee ahead of 2017 polls.
In DP Ruto’s office, save for David Mugonyi, who is the official Spokesperson of the Deputy President, the other communications staff in DP’s press team are mainly former fake news trolls and bots who did dirty work for Jubilee and were edged out as Uhuru reorganized his second term to squeeze a tiny legacy, if any.
