Bomet Governor and pro-devolution czar Isaac Rutto (URP) has retained his seat as the Chairperson of the Council of Governors. He will now be deputized by Kwale governor Salim Mgalla Mvuyra (ODM) after Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero failed to retain his seat.
Sources indicate Gov. Kidero failed to even get a proposer ( history made) which would have allowed him to vie for the seat.
Residents of Bomet town erupted in celebrations as news reached the town that Governor Rutto has retained his seat. The return of Rutto, one of devolved government’s greatest defender and custodian, is set to heighten an ongoing supremacy between him and the Deputy President William Ruto, seen to be the greatest stumbling block to devolution.
Governor Kidero’s replacement is good news to ODM and CORD who have accused him of pussyfooting when it comes to matters of devolution, and acting as if he is a private secretary to President Uhuru Kenyatta. Kidero effectively remains with the Nairobi gubernatorial position which is also shaky considering Senator Mike Sonko has already set his eyes to grab it come 2017.
