Inspector General David Mwole Kimaiyo has come  to the defence of the Kenya Anti-terror unit that has been the subject of a stinging report by the global human rights body.
The body put the unit on the spotlight over alleged extra-judicial excesses that included forced disappearance, torture and killing of terror suspects.
In a rejoinder, the IG termed the allegations baseless and totally unfounded. He defended the terror response unit saying that anti-terror personell had acted with strict adherence to the legal framework.
The damning report cones in the wake of a string of assassinations of terror suspects. In the report,Human Rights Watch called for the withdrawal of international support for the country’s counter-terrorism efforts;a prospect that could greatly undermine the war on terror which is primarily subvented by foreign financial support.
