LAST evening in a dual live debate on Gîkûyû TV station, Inooro, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo reduced Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua to a simple village spokesman.

The show titled Kîrîrîmbî (fire flame) is hosted by my friend Francis Gachuri . The moment I saw their promotion posters I knew Gachagua would be cooked. Even his supporters agree the scores were 10:4.

If the debate was in English language, the scores would have been 10:2. I have heard both speak English and I know what am saying. The Mathira spokesman would have spoken what we call in linguistics INTER-LANGUAGE. Don’t ask me how I perform in spoken English Iam worse. Kabogo is a refined speaker.

See, interms of national presence Kabogo is way way above the former Molo District Officer. Then debating with someone who is talking out of his own experience is always hard.

Kabogo has about three other added advantages. He is smart, eloquent and sharp thinker. He is organized. That is a fact. Ask his friend Ndotch Ndegwa

Two he happens to have served as MP for Juja. You can claim to know more just because you are an MP, he will deflate you with facts.

The third and biggest advantage is having served among the first 47 governors. The pioneer governors went through baptism by fire.

They were new in the job and knew nothing about devolution. That is why we quickly judged them and several were kicked out. They may have done mistakes here and there but truth be said, they shaped the way for devolution.
