GRAPHIC: Photos of badly hacked hawkers hit Nairobi

October 24, 2014

10609406_313200255529804_2616430771950315445_nNairobi Senator Mike Sonko has warned city county government over the recent hackings on hawkers.

Senator Sonko posted violent images of alleged hawkers who have been badly cut in the head.

Here is the post:

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! This brutality on Innocent hawkers by some rogue Nairobi city county Askaris has to stop.

It is so sad that almost everyday, we as Nairobians wake up to a case of brutal killings or hacking of innocent hawkers by some uncouth Council Askaris. They use Matchetes, Knives and even Broken Bottles kuwadunga hawa hawkers.

As the Senator of Nairobi, I have written to the relevant authorities to intervene in the matter and take STERN ACTION against all those who hold the greatest responsibility for these senseless acts. Meanwhile, I ask the Governor of Nairobi- my friend and Brother H.E Dr. Evans Kidero to bring to book all the culprits involved in the Department of City Inspectorate for failing to stop these erroneous acts even after numerous complaints.

I am deeply outraged by the continued use of unnecessary force on Innocent Kenyans especially the poor hawkers. ALL Nairobians Must be respected irregardless of their social status. My heartfelt condolensces goes to the families of the affected and wish those in hospital quick recovery. Nawapenda sana Watu Wangu na poleni mwenyezi atatusaidia na wote waliofanya haya madhambi watakamatwa.***TAKE NOTE; I have hidden part of the contents in my letter for security reasons as it bears the personal details of the victims and witnesses to these crimes.
