Governor Mike Sonko has assented to Nairobi County Appropriations Bill 2017 authorizing release of over Sh35.9 billion for development and recurrent expenditure.

Earlier this year, the Nairobi County Assembly ordered the republishing of the Appropriation Bill after it was published unprocedurally before ward representatives had approved budget

“The Bill is meant to authorize expenditure out of the County Exchequer Account for certain public services and purposes enacted by the Assembly,” said Governor Sonko.

Gikomba fire

Following the Gikomba market fire that has gutted businesses at the largest open air market in Kenya, Governor Sonko said his team is currently assessing the damage before coming up with ways to address the issue.

“We have a budget under our disaster management unit and we are going to address the issue once we know the actual damage,” said Nairobi Governor Sonko.

The county boss has since his inauguration been determined to live by his pledge of restoring Nairobi’s lost glory
