Meru Governor Peter Munya has been elected chairman of the Council of Governors through consensus. He takes over from Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto.
This is a big loss to deputy president William Ruto who only few weeks ago had a harsh with Peter Munya on the state of devolution. Munya’s election will put Tharaka Nithi Senator Prof Kiture Kindiki on the spot over his push to have more funds in Nairobi.
Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya remains the vice chairman, with his Marsabit counterpart Ukur Yattani taking over the position of CoG whip.
Mr Yattani is taking over the position from Ken Lusaka, the governor for Bungoma.
