Two years ago, the devolved system of governance came to effect; it required equitable sharing, fairness and accountability to citizens.
Within this period my county government has achieved the following:
1. Health – Elijah Odhiambo (Suna East)
• Development of Health strategic and investment plan
• Procumbent of ambulances for referrals
• Renovation of all primary facilities, construction of theatres in Awendo and Rongo sub county hospital
• Construction of a mortuary at Kehancha Sub County Hospital
• Construction of wards in Kegonga ,Ntimaru, Karungu and Uriri sub count hospital
• Construction of offices in Macalder sub county hospital
• Construction of Medical Training College (KMTC), wards, store and office at the Migori referral hospital.
• Delivery of Sh30 million medical equipment to health facilities across the county.
2. Public Service Management and Administration – Sheila Ghati (Kuria west)
• Development of sectoral strategic plan 2014-2017
• Development of policies e.g. County Fleet Management and citizen participation policies.
• Construction of ward and sub counties offices across the county.
• Renovation of public Service Management office3s both across the county.
3. Lands and housing – Elizabeth Ochayi (Awendo)
• Purchase of survey equipement
• Purchase of land for ADB funded water project at Isebania
• Fast tracking of title deeds issuance programme to conclude pending AR objections at Kolal and Kanyuor in Nyatike.
4. Education, Youth, Sports, Culture and Social Services – Michael Ogutu (Suna West)
• Initializing construction of 120 ECDE classrooms at a cost of 104 million.
• Construction of 10 youth polytechnics at a cost of Sh. 85 million
• Construction of Migori county stadium
• Issuance of Education scholarship for secondary students at 20 million
• Financial support and donation in kind to various social group and institutions in the county.
5. Roads transport public works and energy – Moses Chamwada (Uriri)
• Construction of approximately 400Kms of roads in the county
• Construction of roads and box culverts and improvement of roads in 30 wards within the county; community participation in energy planning and commencement of solar street lightning projects countywide.
6. Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives – Maneno Mwikwabe (Kuria East)
• Improved business environment by constructing 80 VIP toilets, 2 in every ward and 1 water borne toilet per Sub County.
• Trained 60 Jua kali artisans on how to make measures used in trade, value addition, marketing and standardisation.
• Donated over 200 motorcycles to boda boda youths across the county.
7. Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Water Development – Iscah Oluoch (Awendo)
• Supported 4,000 vulnerable small holder farmers with 600 tonnes of fertilizers and 60 tonnes of seeds.
• Procured 100,000 suckers of tissue culture bananas for distribution to farmers across the county
• Procured 1 tractor to promote farm mechanisation at affordable cost for farmers
• Trained farmers on modern farming technologies and sustainable production.
• Distribution of 10 honey extractors to beneficiary group of bee keeping project, implementation of one dairy cow per sugarcane farmer project through purchase of 150 dairy cows.
• Construction of 150 zero grazing units.
• Establishment of 150 acres of nappier grass
• Procurement of 802,000 quality fingerlings and 70 tonnes of quality fish feed as a aquaculture inputs to farmers.
8. Finance economic planning – Tom Kasera (Nyatike)
• Coordinated the development of the second medium term plan (MTP II) 2013-2017
• County development profiles (CDPs) 2013 and completion of County Integrated Development plan (CIDPs) 2013-2017
• Rolling of the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS)
• Completion of Value for money audits in departments.
• Implementation of policy on access to government procurement opportunities for women, youths and persons with disabilities, among other.
9. Environment, Natural resource and disaster management -Elijah Odhiambo (Acting)
• Implementation of a greening programme in 400 schools supplied with 1200 seedlings per school in 8 sub counties.
• Four degraded hilltops were rehabilitated with 25,200 tree seedlings.
• On reverine conservation, the department planted 1000 tree seedlings.
• Disaster management sub sector responded to 17 schools and 2 villages that were affected by fire/storms by supplying material goods worth Sh 6.9 million.
