Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero has hit out at Uhuru regime for protecting Senator Sonko even as he overruns the town with what might be proceeds of drug trafficking.
Dr. Kidero took issue with Sonko Rescue Team, an amorphous outfit running social initiatives in Nairobi’s slums. The group, whose political intentions were laid bare at Kajiado Central after they were caught distributing money to woo voters to elect the JAP candidate, has seen Nairobians increasingly wonder where they get the funds to run their activities.
But it is the silence of the government even as questions after raised over the outfit that has irked the Nairobi governor who now accuse Uhuru regime of complicity in the illegal activities of the group.
“We know that various individuals have been mentioned as drug traffickers. Nobody is asking where the money they are using is coming from. We know that in places such as Colombia, drug cartels attempt to get into positions of authority by using their money to provide services that local authorities are able to provide” said the governor, alluding to the senator.
“Nairobi is the centre of drug trafficking…What happens in Nairobi reminds me of what happened in Colombia,†governor Kidero told a congregation over the weekend.
“In Colombia, when drug lords want to go into government,  they start influencing the common population by parallel provision of services that the government provides,†he added, though he did not mention any names.
