SCANDAL: CS Transport to SPEND sh300m removing ZEBRA crossings and bumps at Thika Road Super Highway

The Jubilee government is planning to spend 300 million in removing all bumps and pedestrian crossings along Thika Superhighway. According to Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, foot bridges will later be erected to reduce road carnage.

Mr. Macharia said matatu drivers have turned pedestrian crossings and bumps into passenger pick-up and drop-off pointscausing carnage in the process.

The CS was speaking He speaking on Monday when he flagged off of forty five road safety enforcement and patrol vehicles includig 5 ambulances.

The government gave the same to the National Transport and Safety Authority to enhance patrols across the country and reduce road carnage.

The Cabinet Secretary revealed that 3 patrol cars will be given to the main superhighway that has continuously recorded high fatalities.

Macharia noted that more than three thousand lives were lost across the country through road accidents in last year alone, human error and carelessness being some of the leading causes.

Macharia confirmed that more than 100 police officers will be redeployed to boost the NTSA during patrols and enhance accountability.

Macharia also revealed that his office is working closely with other stakeholders including that of the DPP and Judiciary to ensure motorists who cause death through careless driving are imprisoned.
