Governor Isaac Ruto yesterday increased his onslaught on the Jubilee Alliance and especially on Deputy President William Ruto when a meeting the URP party called in Nairobi failed to resolve on whether the outspoken Bomet Governor should be stripped  of his URP membership.
Sensing incruciating defeat and the accompanying political shame, the Deputy President kept off the meeting, only sending his foot-soldiers parliament speaker Dr Joyce Laboso and other high ranking URP officials. He hurriedly flew to Mombasa.
Of the 35 county assembly representatives, only 15 attended the meeting which finally resolved to deny the very purpose of the meeting: tame Gov Rutto. Trouble begun when 5 assembly reps who attended the meeting sided openly with Gov Rutto, telling off their colleagues to keep off devolution matters for the people.
“We plotted to set the MCAs against Ruto to counter the current situation where it is seen that he is fighting the Deputy President but this has not succeeded for today,†a member of URP, who attended the meeting, said.
While all the 35 county assembly reps had been facilitated to Nairobi by URP, 20 disappeared in the city without apology. Calls went unanswered as URP officials frantically tried to reach them. When all appeared to be going wrong, the Deputy President made calls to each of the Bomet County Assembly reps but still they refused to attend the meeting.
