Governors in the former ‘bread basket’ of Kenya – north rift region – have called on the government to provide them with Ksh 20 billion as contingent measure to avert looming food crisis.
The MPs want the money allocated to support maize farming.
Speaking at a funds-drive to support a school in Kesses, Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago also called on the national government to buy maize from farmers by allocating funds to the regions NCPB.
In neighbouring Elgeyo Marakwet, residents are starving for food following prolonged drought which has hit several parts of the country.
Baringo Central Gideon Moi joined Mandago in making the calls.
