Garissa Attack: More than 100 university students may have been taken hostage

April 2, 2015 Leave a Comment

Unconfirmed reports indicate more than 100 students may have been taken hostage by the Al shabaab militia and at least 15 confirmed killed in the dawn attack at Moi University Garissa campus.

Red cross has said another 50 students have been ‘freed’ while the fate of others are unknown.

Terrified students streamed out of buildings, some young men shirtless, as arriving police officers hunkered down, taking cover, witnesses said.

“The gunmen opened fire at the university, triggering a “fierce shoot-out” with police guarding student dormitories,” reports Al Jazeera.
