Framing mental patient as a terrorist shows the lengths government go to brand somali men

After arresting a somali/muslim and successfully using the media to brand and frame him as a terrorist, with the Anti-Terror Police Unit sensationally claiming how they believe the man had accomplices and was sent to carry surveillance at the rural home of President Uhuru, with the intent of carying out a terrorist attack (terrorism); records from Mathare Mental Hospital now reveal that the man was their patient and the family confirms the man disappeared from the house in Embakasi and they’ve been frantically searching for him.

And yes we know that mental cases do crazy things. Be that as it may. . .

Two things come to mind: How many somali/muslim men out there are increasingly being branded/framed as terrorists and detained/incarcerated by a criminal justice system whose default thinking is that all somali/muslim men are terrorists?

Secondly, isn’t it time for this Uhuru regime to rethink its counter-terrorism strategy that will nab real terrorists without victimising all somali/muslim men, including their mental cases and, or retards?

I know the cost and stigma of being branded the ‘bad guy’ and then framed by a government-media commercial complex in this country that thrives on fear-mongering and rakes in billions of shillings as fearmongering profits after tax respectively. I feel for the innocent somali youth.

While we all want President Uhuru’s government to fight terrorism, that fight should be devoid of the drama and choreography that the criminal justice system now treats all somali kenyans (as terrorists) and pro-opposition kenyans (as terrorist sympathisers).

That massive arrests always follow every time a terror attack occurs in our country only reveals an anti-terror strategy built on a fallacious narrative that all we want is to see the President/government ‘appear to be fighting terrorism’ without fighting terrorism.

That the criminal justice system in this country had successfully framed and branded a mental case, a mathare patient, as a terrorist (with accomplices he will help police to arrest) should make those of you who think the government is serious about fighting terrorism reinforce your own security measures.

We want our government to hunt down terrorists to the gates of hell. But we want them to do it with real intelligence, and a government that is intelligence-driven would have done a background check on a mental retard and gathered that not only is he mentally stable, but his caring family has even admitted him to Mathare for psychiatric medication.

If a retarded somali man can be successfully framed as a terrorist, you too can be successfully framed as ANYTHING.

Reminds me that Wadi, a common offender, is separated from other common offenders and has been placed among hardcore death row criminals. That’s because according to the ethnic thinking that currently pervades criminal justice system here, Wadi is a ‘death row’ case. IMPUNITY!
