Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is expected at the prestigious Yale University to give a series of lectures in October.
Mr. Odinga, currently on tour in Germany, will depart from the country in the same week that President Uhuru will also depart for a status conference at the Hague.
President Uhuru is facing charges of crimes against humanity emanating from the 2007 post-election violence. Also charged is Deputy President William Ruto and radio journalist Joshua Arap Sang.
The extended tour will see Mr Odinga also address the Emerging Markets Forum in New York.
After the US tour, Odinga will head to Maputo where he has been appointed by the UN as a distinguished elections observer for the world body of nations.
The Mozambican elections will be held on October 15 with incumbent Armando Guebuza barred from seeking a third term.
