CORD Leader Raila Odinga met the newly appointed Chief Executive Office of the IEBC, Mr Ezra Chiloba when the latter paid him a courtesy call at his Capitol Hill office to introduce himself.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Senator James Orengo (Siaya) and Senator Hassan Omar (Mombasa) alongside CORD Head of Secretariat Mr Norman Magaya in the deliberations that lasted several hours.
The Premier made it clear to the CEO that it is the constitutional responsibility of the institution he heads to ensure free and fair elections so that the democratic will of the people may prevail.
He went further to add that the buck must not be passed to political parties citing that the complete overhaul and reform of the IEBC is an irreducible minimum ahead of the 2017 polls.
The Prime Minister also took issue with the launch of the IEBC Strategic Plan set for this coming Thursday, an exercise that has been shrouded in secrecy and conducted to the exclusion of stakeholders.
He put forward the concern of the political parties in opposition that the IEBC only appears to consult the political parties currently in power, a oversight that he expects to be rectified with immediate effect.
