Ousted Migori County governor Okoth Obado is opting for a battery of top lawyers who ensured President Uhuru Kenyatta’s disputed 2013 win got a legal legitimacy.
Because of the cost of the lawyers, Obado is said to have reached out to President Uhuru Kenyatta to help retain lawyer Fred Ngatia.
Also, Obado had attempted to hire the services of lawyer Ahmednasir Abdulahi who appeared for IEBC during the Supreme Court hearing. Â Sources privy to the happenings indicate the Grand Mullah may have declined.
While the use of these two lawyers are purely professional to argue his case, it also shows just how serious Obado is taking his war with the Orange Democratic Movement party whose candidate, Prof Edward Akong’o Oyugi, successfully petitioned his election at the Appeals Court.
Meanwhile, Prof Oyugi will most likely get the ODM party ticket owing to the fact that he was the sole petitioner for the nullification of the Migori elections.
Oyugi’s candidature was echoed by ODM Executive Director Magerer Langat who said the party has noticed a new phenomenon where some people wait for others to successfully petition elections which costs millions only to come on board when the petition has succeeded.
