The appointment of several parastatal Chairpersons by President Uhuru appears to have ruffled feathers in Elgeyo Marakwet where only two members of the County managed to secure appointments.
In a Gazette notice, President Kenyatta has appointed several Parastal Chairmen from a group of the political elite who fell in the 2013 polls.
Elgeyo Marakwet residents felt that they too had their own stock of veterans like Hon. Boaz Keino, Hon. Kiptanui and the legendary Hon. Francis Mutwol who should have been given a chance to serve the nation.
This comes in the wake of the perception by EMC that ‘rebel’ Counties such as Kericho and Bomet seem to have taken the lion’s share of the appointments.
In a flurry of facebook posts, they have questioned their loyalty to the Jubilee administration in light of the negligable appointments in government.
Some of the residents appeared to apportion blame on the County leadership for failing to bargain for what was rightfully theirs in view of their unwavering support for the Uhuruto pair.
It remains to be seen what this rift in the Rift will portend for the future of DP Ruto considering KANU’s resurgence in the region under Gideon Moi, the Senator of Baringo.
We have to wait anxious for the interesting times ahead.
