A coalition for reforms and democracy leader has urged Deputy President William Ruto to vie for the presidency in 2017 and “not wait for 10 years” as President Uhuru Kenyatta has often told supporters.
Kimilili MP Chris Wamalwa who is also the CORD deputy whip in parliament told the Deputy President that it is his democratic right to go for the top office. According to close aides, the Deputy President is widely expected to run should he win his case at the ICC. Already, there are allegations that Ruto is being prompted by many CORD MPs, including Rongo legislator Dalmas Otieno (ODM).
At the same time, Â Hon Wamalwa revealed that opposition CORD will subject ODM’s Raila Odinga, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetangula to a joint nomination to get the 2017 flag-bearer.
Senator Wetangula recently recaptured his seat after a court nullified his March 4 elections citing irregularities.
Meanwhile, CORD suffered a surprise electoral defeat in Nyaribari Chache when Ford People’s candidate Richard Nyagaka Tongi of Ford People beat the coalition’s candidate Chris Bichage with a slight margin of around 800 votes.
Tongi who lost in the March 4 elections as a Wiper candidate successfully filed the court petition which nullified  ODM’s Bichage election. TNA candidate Dr Robert Monda came a distant third.
