The case where lawyer Kethi Kilonzo who was to vie in the Makueni Senatorial seat after the demise of the father and Senator Mutula Kilonzo but was barred and subsequently charged with an electoral offence has been pushed to March next year.
Alongside IEBC official Godfrey Ninito, Kethi was accused of stealing a voter acknowledgement kit valued at ksh5 . She was also charged with handling a stolen property and submitting forged documents.
Appearing for Kethi, lawyer Fred Ojiambo told Milimani Chief Magistrate Waweru Kiarie that the defence was not ready for the trial as the prosecution had failed to furnish them with all documents related to the witnesses in the case.
The new trial dates will run from March 17 to 21 next year. However, it remains to be seen how the trial will go as a number of senior IEBC officials have also been hauled in court for a multiple electoral offences, including the management of voter materials ms Kilonzo is accused of stealing.
The seat was finally won by her brother, Mutula Kilonzo Jr.
