Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has indicated it will bring a motion to impeach President Uhuru Kenyatta over failure to obey a court order.
CORD Leader of the Minority and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula revealed the opposition will table an impeachment motion when the house resumes in two weeks. Parliament is currently in recess.
“The President’s refusal to obey court orders is a serious violation of the Constitution… if the Judiciary or Parliament was to treat the Executive with disdain, or vice versa, it will be an affront to the Constitution of Kenya,†said Wetang’ula
On Wednesday, ODM Leader Raila Odinga warned that failure to obey court orders will lead to anarchy.
“If the President says he can’t pay and won’t pay teachers, he has no business staying in office, and he should go home. Anarchy will reign in this country if we don’t follow the law,” Raila said.
However, Jubilee has scoffed at the ploy.
“Let them exercise their right because the impeachment motion is provided for in the Constitution. It is for them to follow the laid-down procedure but I must caution them the threshold is very high. We want to assure them that it is not going to be a walk in the park. We will deal with the motion in a bipartisan way because we know there are many colleagues in the Opposition who believe in the leadership of the President,†Duale said.
