It is with extreme shock and trepidation that we learn of the ongoing siege at Moi University Garissa Campus. As the secretary General of Union of Kenya Civil Servants(UKCS) and a parent, I’m deeply concerned about this dispiriting siege and the lackadaisical state of our intelligence especially in light of the president’s speech yesterday gloating about our state of preparedness while rebuffing western travel advisories.
Nonetheless, this is not the time to apportion blames and finger point–it is time to handclasp and cooperate. It is a time to show enemies of progress the power of our collective will.We stand with the president and urge the opposition CORD to put the Kenya beyond any parochial or political interest.
We can never afford to compromise our intelligence simply because these students murdered in cold blood today could be your child, my child or anybody’s child.
Beloved Kenyans, even as we demand better from the government– we must ask ourselves hard questions such as ; 1.who are these collaborators that expose our nakedness to these deranged minds,2. what is ailing NIS and CID, and 3.what happened to the power of synergy in our security sector?
As a Kenyan may I trip back your memory to those powerful words of USA President George Washington “think about what you can do for your country not what your country can do for you”, but the security assets must brood public confidence such that any intelligence(you give) will be treated with utmost seriousness and confidence.
Our sincere condolences to the affected and infected; both parents, teachers, workers and may God grant them fortitude to bear this unfortunate loss
Signed
Tom Odege
