CORD Leader Raila Odinga today led his Kenyan delegation to China for a site visit to the premises of the Chinese low-cost housing conglomerate BMBM Ltd.at their manufacturing plant in Beijing,China.The BMBM group was led by their General Manager Mr. Yin Jihana and Director of International Trade Mr. Zam Xhim.
The two parties explored areas of mutual cooperation and partnership in the area of low-cost housing.The Kenyan team expressed interest in deploying the low cost housing scheme in residential housing, schools, hospitals and other public utilities.
The BMBM group reiterated they were ready to customize their housing design to correspond to the requirements of the Kenyan market based on prevailing circumstances on the ground.
It was agreed that a joint-venture arrangement will be pursued between the two parties,with the Chinese side promising to pursue a credit line with the Exim Bank of China to facilitate mass production of the low cost houses to enable the Counties enjoy economies of scale so as to reduce the unit costs.
The Kenyan team comprised of Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya,Nyamira County Governor John Nyangarama,Siaya County Governor Cornell Rasanga,Marsabit County Deputy Governor Ali Omar Abdi and Mr. Eliud Owalo,a Management Consultant.
Also present was the Economic Counsellor at the Kenyan Embassy in Beijing Mr. David Kabiru and Second Counsellor John Odipo.
