Reports just in indicate that that President Uhuru Kenyatta has FIRED Evans Semelang’o the Youth fund boss, he has been replaced by his high-school friend music producer and events organiser Bruce Odhiambo.
Whereas Semelangó is an accomplished manager with solid academic background, it is not clear what Bruce brings to the office other than his experience as a music producer and a Jubilee events organizer in the last general election. Semelangó holds a Masters degree from Utrecht University (rated best public university in the Netherlands) and ranked top 50 world wide.
Semelang’o sacking comes barely a year after President Mwai Kibaki appointed him chairman of the Board of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund. The three year appointment was effective January 16, 2013 and was announced through the Kenya Gazette of February 15, 2013.
Mr. Semelang’o, had previously served for three years as a member of the board and upon his appoitnment he became the third Chairperson of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund. His predecessors were Ms. Hellen Tombo (2006 to 2009) and Mr. James Gitau Singh (2010 to 2013).
He has been active in youth matters, having served as the chairman of the National youth council steering committee. He was expected to steer the Fund through its second strategic plan.
Semelangó is well known for his flamboyancy (Ujaluo itamuua!) and well respected by his peers and the youth. He is very accessible and often gets work done. We wait for confirmation if may be the president was once again mis-advised to FIRE him. Our in-house legal expert has indicated that the tax payer will have to foot the burden of paying damages if Semelangó decides to exercise his right to sue for breach of contract.
In 2013 Semelang”o was among the influential youths who volunteered to shield Uhuru against ICC accusations alleging that in 2007 Uhuru had hosted Mungiki in statehouse where revenge attacks were planned, Semelang’o, ambassador Yvonne Khamati among others came out breathing hot air and claimed they were the said youths thereby calling a bluff on the ICC.
It is not clear if Semelangó was among the the defense witnesses in the collapsing ICC case against president. To those in ODM, chicken just came home to roast!
Here is Evans crying loud for wrongful dismissal:
I draw my inspiration from DP Ruto,Sacked 4 no reason as a minister now #Deputy President-Kenya against all odds.#turning point in my life.
