Nicholas Mugo Mwangi popularly known as DJ Moh Spice has been arrested by detectives from the Special Crimes Prevention Unit (SCPU), after being spotted with gun in a popular city club.

Announcing the arrest, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that he was arrested on Wednesday night following a public outcry after the photo went viral.

The detectives revealed that they recovered the gun spotted in the picture and 174 rounds of ammunition.



“Following Public outcry of a #DJ displaying a Firearm in public, @DCI_Kenya Detectives from #SCPU last night arrested Mr. Nicholas Mugo MWANGI at #SpaceLounge Club, Ngong Rd. A Steyr Pistol & 174 rounds of Ammunitions confiscated. He’s in our custody helping with investigations,” tweeted DCI.

The photo taken at his brother’s birthday party went viral showing the DJ’s gun tucked under his belt, after it was shared on social media.

The photo led to a public outcry, with Kenyans asking if it was safe to have people flaunting their guns publicly.

    Kenya 7s stars handed 15 years jail term for gang rape

    Rugby players Alex Mahaga Olaba and Lawrence Frank Wanyama have been sentenced to 15 years each in prison for gang-raping a musician.

    Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act says any person found guilty of gang-rape is liable upon conviction to imprisonment for a term of not less than fifteen years.

    The two have now been sentenced to 15 years in prison. The term, may be enhanced to imprisonment for life.

    The two rugby players were convicted of gang-raping a musician on February 10, 2018.

    After hearing mitigation from Alex Mahaga Olaba and Lawrence Frank Wanyama on August 9, Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku postponed the sentencing to today.

    Through their lawyer Jimmy Simiyu, the two said they regretted the incident and pleaded with the court for a non-custodial sentence.

    The lawyer noted that Olaba is 23 years old, Wanyama 22 and the complainant 24, and that they had not planned to meet her at her birthday party that night.

    They were all drunk, he said, adding the woman opted to spend the night at Seefar Apartments in Highrise, Nairobi, after getting drunk.

    The lawyer further said the players were from humble backgrounds and that the complainant had tried to extort money from them.

    Simiyu also noted that the accused dropped out of school to attend court in the case that has gone on for more than one year.

    He also told the court that one of the Strathmore University students had secured a scholarship at a Canadian University while the other had entered into a contract with a club in Helsinki, Finland.

    “We request a non-custodial sentence as they have shown remorse. A custodial sentence will dash their dreams,” he said, adding his clients played a significant role when Kenya won the Rugby Sevens series in Singapore in 2016.

    Both players have represented the national seven-a-side team, Shujaa. Olaba has also represented the national 15-a-side team, Simbas.

    Olaba and Wanyama started their rugby careers at Strathmore University with Strathmore Leos before switching to Kenya Harlequins.

    In reply, prosecutor Evelyn Onungo noted the victim’s state and that the two players should have conducted themselves with decorum, especially since they are national rugby players. She urged the court to go for the maximum penalty provided for in the law.

    Man shoots matatu driver ‘who refused to get out of the way’

    Police are holding a man for shooting and killing a matatu driver at Polyview Estate in Kisumu.
    Daniel Jaoko, a manager at Ray-Green Hotel in Nyamasaria, is said to have parked his car, blocking Peter Otieno, a matatu driver, who wanted to drive out of the estate.
    While confirming the 5am shootout, county commander Benson Maweu said the suspect drew a pistol and shot the matatu driver three times in the chest.
    Maweu said the suspect dropped his girlfriend at the estate but refused Otieno’s request to get out of the way.
    “We rushed the victim to Avenue Hospital where he succumbed while undergoing treatment,” said Maweu. The driver suffered serious lung injuries.
    Maweu reported that upon a vehicle search, police recovered 15 bullets.
    A second search at Jaoko’s house in Nyamasaria found 42 bullets.
    The suspect and his car are being held at Kondele Police Station.
    Maweu said it was wrong for Jaoko to shoot and kill the unarmed driver.
    The county police boss said police have launched investigations.
