Word reaching us indicates that Maasai Mara and Pwani Universities are engulfed with dread over fear of a possible attack, exactly one week after a similar attack in Moi University Garissa Campus where more than 140 students lost their lives.
According to Omolo Odhiambo, a secretary of Nyumba Kumi Committee in Maasai Mara University, ladies have fled their hostels and sought refuge from their colleagues who reside outside the campus. Mr. Omolo has posted on his the University’s Facebook page that the situation at the University was unbearable especially now that they are still mourning their fallen comrades in the hands of terrorists. Mr. Omolo said security has been beefed up as the students prepare for their terminal exams.
According to another student at Masai Mara University, word has made rounds that an impending Al-Shabaab attack is likely to happen and one person is reportedly behind bars in light of that. A strange man believed to be of Somali origin was seen gallivanting the nooks and crannies of the campus, something which triggered the suspicion among students. The man was immediately apprehended and is in police custody awaiting scrutiny. In the meantime, the authorities have assured students of their security and normalcy is slowly returning amid fear.
