The Republic of Tanzania is reported to have rejected the outgoing German Ambassador  to Kenya H. E Margit Hell Wig-Botte, a close confidant of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The Ambassador had late last week been hosted at a dinner by the  former Prime Minister at his Karen residence in an event that was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, CORD co-principal Senator Moses Wetangula, parliamentary minority leader Francis Nyenze, Senators, Governors, Mps, senior civil society members among others.
“Yes, Tanzania has rejected my appointment. Under Diplomatic Code, a host country reserves the right to give consent for the posting of an envoy or reject.Tanzania has rejected but is not under any obligation to explain the reasons,†said the Ambassador.
According to our source in the land of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the expulsion of the Ambassador from Dar es Salaam has everything to do with the ongoing cases at the ICC and the shifting geopolitics in the East African community.
“President Uhuru’s Look East foreign policy has not been in tandem with the democratic ideals pursued by the EU and Ambassador Margit’s close relationship with Hon Odinga did not help her,” said the source, adding that it appears president Kenyatta was not keen on having the principled Ambassador pulling strings in East Africa.
