Drama at Nairobi Central SDA church continued on Saturday morning after police chased away worshipers due to escalating leadership wrangles. Members urged to worship from St. George’s School.
The scenes were like those at Bomas of Kenya when the Chairman of IEBC is about to announce the loser as the winner, this is the lowest the church has sunk.
The wrangles at the church are mainly about control of resources.
Members of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church are reported to be divided over the controversial process of de-registering some of them.
Hundreds of Christians who had turned up for worship were left stranded outside the church that is located opposite Nairobi Area Police Station.
There was heavy police presence, with GSU manning the church to ensure no one came in.
This comes just hours after the church leadership announced the excommunication of 15 members who were linked to chaos at the church last Saturday.
In a letter dated August 9, 2019 and addressed to all pastors of SDA churches, the Central Kenya Conference (CKC) executive office which oversees operations cautioned preachers and members of the church against associating with the expelled members.
They further expressed concern about increased cases of fracas and unrest in the church which they said were caused by a section of rowdy members.
Similar chaos were also witnessed in July 2019 when a section of church members opposed the expulsion of their fellow worshipers.
Albert Amenya says:
In every 1000 SDA members, 3 are Kikuyus occupying top leadership positions including treasurer. The remaining 997 are members from the Gusii communities and a few Luos from Migori and Homabay Counties.
A friend of mine tells me Kisiis are comfortable with the title ‘ELDER’ for instance ELDER Mosoku, ELDER Orenge, ELDER Nyanchwani, ELDER Omwanza Elder Omondi, ELDER Ombuna ELDER Ngare ELDER Mekenye et al. CALL all those ELDERS HERE.
Kikuyus and their entrepreneurial traits love titles like TREASURER Kamau.
Hez Omollo says:
Geofrey Asanyo is the reason Nairobi Central SDA church will have no peace.
Since he left KANU politics, his way has been to make money from the church through contracts.
He is the fuel that fires feuds in our church . It’s time to call this man out like the good bible tells us about Gentiles and Tax collectors in Mathews 18:15-17.
CS Matiangi should also use his office appropriately instead of fomenting dissent and stand off. The wrath of God is dire and surpasses furnace heat.
(For the 3rd sabbath in a row, Maxwells has no prayers or peace. Police have cordoned off the church today)
