Internal security principal secretary Mutea Iringo has accused Deputy President William Ruto of sensationally claiming he was part of the government machinery which procured witnesses in the case against Ruto at the Hague.
In a letter addressed to Ruto’s lead lawyer Mr Karim Khan, QC, Iringo dismisses Ruto’s accusations, terming them ‘without basis whatsoever’.
“I am writing this note to protest in the strongest terms possible this very serious allegation made by part of your legal team against me which I consider unfair, false and without any legal basis whatsoever.
“Whatever your source of this malicious and misleading information, I wish to inform you that as a law abiding citizen and a believer in the rule of law,I have never been part of the plans to offer cash or protection against witnesses who would testify against the Deputy President.â€
Iringo was responding to allegations recently made by Ruto’s defence lawyer, David Hooper, who mentioned Iringo and Nancy Gitau, President Uhuru’s chief political advisor, as among top government officils who coached witnesses to implicate Ruto over the post poll violence.
Over the weekend, Ruto’s right hand man, Charles Keter, who is also the senator of Kericho County stirred a storm when he demanded that at least ten people serving in government must get out for implicating Ruto at the ICC.
Mutea, apparently stung by these new offensive, and threat to his job, has fired back ruthlessly!
“These false and reckless accusations which are without any basis also go towards damaging my reputation and causing unnecessary political tension,†says Iringo.
“As a respected and experienced lawyer, I expect that the legal team you head should avoid playing political games and instead conduct credible and legitimate investigations without tarnishing names of innocent individuals. . .†he added.
Ouch! Now it is getting thick here. Anyway, sit back, relax and watch this movie!
