PRESS RELEASE: GOVERNMENT OF BOTSWANA DONATES DROUGHT RELIEF SUPPLIES TO KENYA

The Government of the Republic of Botswana has donated food supplies to two Counties in Kenya to benefit communities adversely affected by the drought situation in Kenya.

The donation was in response to the appeal made by His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya in February, 2017 for drought relief assistance to alleviate the impact of the severe drought that his country is currently experiencing.

The humanitarian donation included food supplies and fortified sorghum meal for infants worth approximately US$40,000.00 (Ksh 4,371,160.000).

The food relief supplies were handed over to the County authorities in Laikipia and Baringo on 17th and 18th March, 2017 by Botswana’s High Commissioner to Kenya, HE John Moreti.

The quantity of the donated supplies is expected to benefit approximately 1000 needy households/families in the two counties for at least one (1) month.
