ODM acting party leader Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has dismissed Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero over his statements that the party should give support to non-members who left the party for other political outfits.
Kidero on Friday said ODM should support Jared Okello, the successful Nyando petitioner, saying he was a victim of the bungled last year ODM nominations.
The Nairobi Governor also indicated he supports embattled Migori County Governor Zachary Obado. Quite contradictory, while Kidero supports Okello by virtue of winning the petition against incumbent Outa, he does not extend his support to the winner of Migori petition, Prof Akong’o Oyugi, who also successfully petitioned the court to annul the election of governor Obado who is a known Jubilee ally.
“Like we did in Mathare, ODM should support Jared Okello in the Nyando by-election since he is the one who took the petition challenging Fred Outa (former MP) to court,” he said, adding, “We should support Obado if we want development in this region”.
In a terse statement today, Nyong’o says ODM awards its ticket to ‘party members’ in accordance with the party’s constitution and termed Kidero’s early canvassing as ‘mere speculations’.
“The Orange Democratic Movement ( ODM ) gives nominations to party members in accordance with the party’s constitution and election & nominations rules. Any suggestions to the contrary are mere speculations that party members are advised to ignore,” reads Nyong’o’s statement.
The party leader, Raila Odinga is currently in the United States.
