My high school  teacher a Mr. Yogo one afternoon told his students that time is a good master but remains a spoiler of many of its students. The recent events in ODM as regards Namwamba the Budalangi MP drew my attention to above saying.
Ababu is a young ambitious leader and ODM member of parliament. He is a gifted orator, a renowned lawyer and columnist. He was viewed by many as a staunch supporter of Raila Odinga not until recently when he accused the party leader of undermining him.
Many ODM supporters are of the view that Ababu is part of a well orchestrated plan by Jubilee to rock the party from within by pulling a Mudavadi scenario.
Others however, thinks that the old guards in ODM are the problem towards internal party democracy. The timing of Namwamba’s latest onslaught against a party that sponsored him to parliament is suspense. Why at this time when we are pushing for a referendum?
‘Raila has no moral authority to call for a referendum when his party cant hold credible elections’ – Namwamba.
I understand Namwamba’ s frustrations after the botched party elections. Whether he is a mole or not, he campaigned vigorously for Secretary General’s post and his popularity was overwhelming.
So is it true that Namwamba Wuod Nereah is William Ruto’s protégée, sleeper , Manchurian or a stooge? Well this could be true or false depending on a number of factors. But do not forget that politics is a game of numbers that makes like minded politicians with common interest and ambition go to bed.
Can Namwamba cross over to Jubilee? Certainly yes. He has previously worked with Ruto in ODM to derail Jakom a deal that nearly backfired since Budalangi is not in Rift Valley. Ababu sensing danger of being confined to political dustbin retreated.
For the doubting Thomases let me take you back to 2009 event. But before that here is what Nwamba said ‘I would rather quit politics than go to bed with Jubilee. My ideological grounding is completely at variance with theirs.’
A flashback at Ababu’s association with William Ruto, February 2009.
At a time when the maize scandal almost killed Ruto’s political ambition, Ababu came in to rescue Ruto. Here is how it started.
Uasin Gishu politician Jackson Kibor a beneficiary of maize scam through his mafuta farm was awarded 100,000 bags of maize when Ruto was Minister for Agriculture in grand coalition government. This raised eye brows. It was suspected that Kibor entered into maize deal with Ruto on a 50-50 share basis. He sold on behalf of the minister to avoid conflict of interest. Oscar Sudi, now Kapsaret MP was also caught up in the scandal.
Ruto aware that the issue would boil up in Parliament, tipped Nwamwamba and Kuttuny to work on a list to be tabled in the august house. The idea was to shift focus from Khalwale’s list by introducing first Lady Lucy Kibaki’s name into the maize scandal. The move hit a brick wall. Namwamba who had earlier been hosted by Ruto found himself in trouble.
Namwamba and Kuttuny would then blame ODM leadership of Raila and Mudavadi for using maize scam to bring down Ruto due to his raising political star. A babu was quoted saying this in a rally, ‘If you see people throwing mud at your son then know that you have a real bull.’ Ruto was the said bull.
Is Namwamba a whirlwind as he warns of a political shake up come 2017?
I find his concern genuine but his latest move and reaction are hogwash.
Firstly his earlier assertion that RAO don’t support him for Sec Gen’s post hence western community will chicken out are misplaced and uncalled for. Raila even fell out with Luos who thought he would endorsed them read Dalmas Otieno of Kalausi. As he did mention that RAO remains with one last bullet, so be it. However, Namwamba remains a general with several guns and without a single bullet.
So be it, Twafiq Wuod Nereah, chuny wuoi Jabudalangi.
