Political Parties Dispute tribunal lead by Chairman Kyalo Mbobu today nullified the purported deregistration of former President Mwai Kibaki’s dead party PNU.
The tribunal, whose other members are Chacha Odera, James Â Atema and Reverend Jessie Mutura nullified the purported deregistration of PNU by the Registrar of Political Parties on the basis that the purported deregistration was unconstitutional and is in breach of rules and natural justice; following an appeal by party members represented by advocate Steve Mogaka.
The PNU party moved to the tribunal after it was deregistered by gazette notice dated 17th October 2014. The party is said to have been registered for an alleged non compliance with section 39 of political parties act that requires filing of statutory returns that includes financial statements and party elected officials.
The tribunal has declared the deregistration null and void and has directed reignstatement of PNU party, though by all means PNU as as dead as the sabre toothed bear or the dodo the duck-like bird.
Meanwhile the has a pending court battle at the tribunal over property ownership which will be heard by the tribunal on 29th Jan 2015.
