A teenage girl who has just completed high school has managed to secure a seat in the Ugandan parliament. Miss Proscovia Oromait who just turned 20 years won a by election to secure a seat the was until July held by her late father. She won on the ticket of the ruling party led by President Yoweri Museveni.
The party of president Museveni was in need of a victory, having won only one out of eight mid term eletions. The by election was seen as popularity test of President Museveni. Miss Oromait’s win gives the president some fresh air by enhancing his approval ratings. She is the youngest Ugandan parliamentarian ever.
Critics fear that the work as a parliamentarian brings too much responsibility for the young girl.
