EXPLICIT SEXUAL CONTENT IN OUR RADIO STATIONS
Our society has gone to the dogs. This is mirrored in the explicit sexual talk aired on our radio stations. The language is so vulgar that no self respecting parent would feel comfortable travelling with his/her children in Matatus tuned in to such radio stations.
When you politely ask the crew to change stations they rudely decline, asking you to buy your own car if such talk makes you uncomfortable.
We have a film censorship board that regulates and guides TV Stations and movie directors on what to screen for what audience. “Adults only” “Not for children under 16” are some of the warnings projected on the screen before showing the movie. I think the mandate of the Kosgei led board should extend to radio stations.
It is so embarrassing to listen to sexual talk in such graphic detail in a public transport vehicle. To make it worse the programmes are timed to coincide with peak hours when parents and children board the same vehicles on their way to work and school respectively.
What kind of a generation are we bringing up? Isn’t this encouraging immorality? No wonder cases abound of children as young as 13 patronizing entertainment joints and engaging in group sex. We all remember the incident where school children were caught red handed with drugs in a Matatu. They were embroiled in orgies of sex raking to what happened in Sodom and Gomorrah or what the children of Israel did when Moses went up the mountain to collect the Tablet of the ten commandments.
Am told former President Moi could not allow such nonsense. During the days of VOK, later KBC, such obscene language would not be entertained.
Democracy has come with a corresponding deterioration of morals. We are fast aping the West with its moral decadence. I fear for our children!
