WHY GOVERNORS ARE AGAINST UHURU MEDICAL EQUIPMENTS DEAL
Governors are up in arms against the directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to sign the multi-billion shilling medical equipments deal worth 38 billion shillings.

According to Governors the deal will cost each County Ksh 800 million to lease the medical equipments for 7 years from multi-national companies which they say is an exaggeration since they can afford to lease the same equipments at a cost of Ksh 200 million shillings.

Former Council of Governors Chair Isaac Ruto who is leading the rebellion against the Medical deal has said he will not append his signature to allow the leasing of the medical equipments for his Bomet County Government. “ I wont allow my people to pay millions of shillings for equipments which we wont even own after seven years. Let them bring them here with their money and leave us.” said the Bomet Governor.

So far only Mandera, Nyandarua, Kiambu, Machakos, Wajir, Busia and Bungoma Counties have leased the medical equipments. The national government intends to issue a 10 year contract to private firms, including multinational companies such as Philips, Toshiba and Siemens to provide medical equipment to 94 Level 4 and 5 hospitals in first phase of the project.
