Parliamentary AGRICULTURE Committee Chairman Hon Adan Nooru shocked Kenyans on Wednesday morning during Cheche show on Citizen TV by admitting on national TV that he received Kshs 4 million from a Mr Abbas who is part of the sugar racket at the falling Mumias Sugar Company.
Nooru who appeared in the popular morning show together with Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali shocked the Cheche panel when he disclosed that Abbas sent to his account Kshs 4 million after he distributed sugar in Central and parts of Northern Kenya.
Hon Nooru’s statement was confirmed by Hon Washiali who revealed that Abbas is a sugar baron and a brother to the owner of YH, a company linked to the downfall of Mumias Sugar.
Washiali, said the money was a bribe sent to Mr Noor’s bank account to alter recommendations on the Agriculture Committee report detailing the rot in Kenya’s sugar sector.
Washiali also revealed that members of the committee received Ksh 60 million from current and former Mumias Sugar Directors to exclude the name of Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero who is the prime suspect accused of plundering the miller in a KPMG audit report.
Mr Washiali and Seven committee members refused to sign the final report, saying 22 of their colleagues had been compromised to “mutilate†the report, and remove the name of Kidero who had been mentioned in connection with bringing down the factory.
Audit firm KPMG and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) have indicated that fake sugar exports allegedly valued at Sh2.7 billion were recorded as exported to regional countries by Mumias in the period when Kidero was at the helm of the company.
The reports state that the sugar listed for export did not leave the country, costing the tax agency in excess of Sh250 million in unpaid taxes. Sugar for export is not taxed.
Further, some of these transporters were paid millions of shillings, despite having not delivered a single kilogramme of sugar, according to a KPMG forensic audit report in our possession.
The DPP has not directed the prosecution of Kidero despite the evidence provided by the KPMG audit report and Sonko who published a dossier on how Kidero plundered Billions of shillings from the collapsed Mumias Sugar Company.
According to the Sonko’S dossier Kidero irregularly paid in cash Kshs 600 million to YH for distribution of sugar and later kshs 1 billion through dodgy ways.YH Wholesalers is associated with businessman and Mumias Sugar Company contractor Yunis Ibrahim Khalif. He also happens to be the director of Sifa Cleaning and Bins Services, a company which was awarded garbage collection tender at City Hall through dodgy means.
